Back in 2021, Westend Business Hub did not exist yet, not really. It existed as an idea, worked on out of a garage, built around a simple belief that Werribee needed a place where people could connect, support each other, and actually grow their businesses, without having to drive into the city to find that kind of energy.
This year, that idea has been named a finalist in the Excellence in Professional and Business Services category at the 30th Wyndham Business Awards. It is a good moment to look back at how a garage-based idea became a working part of this community, and what it took to get here.
Thirty years of Wyndham Business Awards history is a genuinely long track record, and being included in it as a finalist means being measured against every serious business that has come through this local economy over three decades.
Milestones Along the Way
The journey from garage to finalist was not one big leap, it was a long series of smaller ones. Finding and fitting out the first space in Werribee. Signing the first handful of members who took a chance on a brand-new coworking space before it had any track record. Running the first Westend Business Circle event, not knowing if anyone would show up. Launching sister businesses in digital marketing, photography and podcasting, each one built to support the same local business community from a different angle.
Each step was small on its own. Together, they built something that a panel of judges and thirty years of Wyndham Business Awards history recognised as a genuine finalist in Excellence in Professional and Business Services.
Why We Started
Werribee was growing fast, but the infrastructure for small business support had not caught up. Freelancers were working from kitchen tables. Start-ups were paying for city offices they barely used. There was no obvious local place to meet a client properly, attend a business event, or simply be around other people building something of their own.
Westend Business Hub was built to fill that specific gap, a genuinely local space for coworking, meetings and connection, rather than another generic serviced office trying to look like everywhere else.
The Garage, Honestly
It is easy to romanticise a garage start, so it is worth being honest about what it actually looked like. No investors, no big launch event, just a clear read on a real problem, and a willingness to start small and figure the rest out along the way. The first version of this idea was far rougher than the space that exists today, and that gap between the rough start and where things have landed is exactly what makes the finalist recognition feel earned rather than handed over.
Building the Space, Then Building the Community
Opening the doors was only ever step one. The harder, more important work has been building an actual community inside those walls, regular networking events, workshops on practical topics like content and LinkedIn, and the kind of everyday conversations between members that turn into referrals, partnerships and friendships.
Along the way, Westend Business Hub grew into something bigger than one coworking space. Sister businesses followed, Westend Digital for marketing, Westend Photography for brand imagery, and Westend Podcast for local business stories, all built around the same idea of supporting Wyndham businesses properly, not just renting them a desk.
The People Who Made This Happen
None of this was built alone. It was built by early members who took a chance on a space with no track record yet, by local partners willing to collaborate before there was any real proof of concept, and by a small team who believed the idea was worth the long hours it took to get right. Awards recognise a business by name, but the actual work behind it has always been a group effort.
Showing Up in the Community
Being embedded in Wyndham has meant partnering with organisations doing meaningful work locally, supporting Wyndham City Council’s Business Clean Up Day, taking part in the Wyndham Learning Festival, and backing Big Brother Big Sister Australia’s mentoring programs. None of this was ever about marketing. It reflects what this business was actually built to do, contribute to Werribee, not just operate inside it.
Our Sister Businesses, Growing Alongside Us
None of the growth happened in isolation. As the Hub grew, so did the wider Westend family, Westend Digital taking on marketing and web work for local businesses, Westend Photography building a genuine visual identity for brands across Wyndham, and Westend Podcast giving local business owners a platform to share their own stories. Each one exists for the same underlying reason the Hub does, because Werribee and the wider Wyndham corridor deserved better local options than driving into the city for every service a growing business need.
What Being a Finalist Actually Means
Being named a finalist in the Excellence in Professional and Business Services category at the 30th Wyndham Business Awards is not something we take lightly. It is recognition from the same business community this Hub was built for, and that makes it mean more than any other kind of award ever could.
It also means something for every member who has walked through that door, every business owner who has attended a workshop, and every local partner who has trusted us with an event or a program. This recognition belongs to that whole community as much as it belongs to us.

What Comes Next
Being a finalist is not the finish line, it is a checkpoint. There is more to build, expanding our presence into other parts of Wyndham, growing the sister businesses that support our members beyond just workspace, and a small business summit we have been quietly working toward for a while now. The plan has never been to become the biggest coworking space in Melbourne’s west, it has always been to become the most genuinely useful one for the people who actually work here.
Whatever happens at the Awards night, we are proud of how far this has come, grateful for the community that built it with us, and genuinely just getting started. There is more Werribee, more of Wyndham, and hopefully a small business summit still to come.
